It Is Not About Me

“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.” Galatians 1:10 (NLT)

That was the verse of the day on my Bible app from YouVersion.com today. It really hit me in a unique way.

20120817-191546.jpgI have been thinking a lot lately about when Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment and He answered by saying two. Simply put they are to love God and love people. Jesus then basically said that all of the Bible places its weight on those two things. It makes me wonder how well I do those two things. If loving God and loving people is that important then I need to be living it.

The reason I want to get those two things right in my life is not that by loving people I will gain their approval or acceptance. I want to do it because I want to please God and bring honor and glory to him.

I told the teens in my youth group in my last talk to them. That the way we treat people and the way we speak to people needs to be communicating this message: “You matter because God says you do. You have value because God made you.”

I hope that in my life that I do that. I know that I have not always been the best at it, but I want to be. I want to do this because I am a Christ-follower? and I want to serve and honor Him with my all.

I am a follower of Jesus, a husband to Kim, father to Hannah & Caleb, and the connections pastor at The River Church. The thoughts expressed here are my own and not The River Church's.
