The Michigan Backyard Brawl

Tomorrow is the big game here in the state of Michigan. It is when Michigan plays Michigan State. A lot was made out of some comments from last year’s game and it seemed to put a little bit more fire into this rivalry game that had seemed to lose it’s fervor. Although a lull in the rivalry is somewhat to be expected when your team boasts a 67-28-5 record, which is a .695 winning percentage, over their rival.

However, none of that really matters this year because Michigan has been playing horribly. Also if history plays out like normal Michigan will lose because we have a new coach and there has only been one time that a first year coach won this rivalry, which was when both teams had a first year coach. And so it looks like the Paul Bunyan-Governor of Michigan Trophy will be heading north to that school up there. Even though it is an ugly trophy I am sure the Sparty’s will take good care of it until we can bring it back home next year.

While I am not looking forward to all the Sparty fans and their comments that will be coming all year I can accept the reality that they are definitely the better team this year. I just hope Michigan can make it a competitive game and actually play all 4 quarters of this game. So let me go ahead and offer my congratulations to all the Spartan fans for their victory over my Michigan Wolverines.
